Astro Flag is a modified Gulfstream Hellion which was made by Kai Zerros.

History[]

When 30 Gulfstream Hellion units were delivered to the PPDC, one belonging to the Sumatra Shatterdome was assigned to Kai Zerros (GU #21). However, having sworn on Candace's grave that he would defeat Mech Czar in Onslaught Barbatos, Kai instead requested that a modification be made to his unit. Yasmin Augus the acting chief engineer of the PPDC at the time, used her influence to acquire one of the PPDC's 10 Driver Tau units along with the remains of Barbatos Onslaught and apply its technology onto one of the Gulfstream Hellions. The result was the Astro Flag.

The first occasion of the unit being deployed was when Iron Sandrock and Domomote Vishnu were engaged in a heated battle and wanting to end the conflict as soon as possible, Kai rammed Domomote and knocked it's pilot unconscious.

In October 2035, Mech Czar kidnaps Petra Okita and Kai swears to not repeat the same mistake again and takes Astro Flag to confront the crime lord. To his surprise, Mech Czar has her own Jaeger and fights him. The battle results in the death of Mech Czar and the near destruction of Astro Flag with it's left arm getting sliced off and it's sensors gouged out. What happened to the Jaeger is unknown but it was presumed to be left in the bay where the battle occured.

Features[]

The Astro Flag is a Gulfstream Hellion hastily modified and fitted with a Driver Tau at Kai's request. Most of the original means of propulsion, such as the plasma engine backpacks, are removed to make room for the Driver Tau, save for a few maneuvering thrusters for use in close combat.

The Driver Tau does not integrate elegantly with the unit, and uses a swing mechanism to switch position depending on uses. When the drive is attached to the Jaeger's rear, it primarily serves as a means of propulsion, but this is not without problems as the Driver Tau also disrupts the unit's body balance. In order to power the Tau Saber, the Driver Tau swings to a latch behind the left shoulder. This single saber, is the suit's primary offensive weapon and is equipped via a cable that provides it with Tau particle feed. This is because the base unit is not designed to be used with Tau Technology. Due to the modifications, the Jaeger is no longer able to use solar energy. Designed for the single purpose of defeating a Jaeger, the Astro Flag is the physical representation of Kai's vengeance for his fallen comrade (Candace Miller).

The unit is overall inferior to the Gulfstream Union and certainly weaker than the normal PPDC Jaegers, but it proved to be quite formidable against a Rogue Jaeger with drastically reduced performance. It also only required one pilot to operate due to the Driver Tau intergration.
