Pan Pacific Defense Corps' Propagandized Story of Tyrant Dynasty[]
Tales spin of a lone sentinel, a guardian born not of flesh and bone, but of steel. Forged atop the greatest peaks of the heavens, amalgamated by the gods of days past, a titan carved from the bedrock of a nation’s resolve, tempered in the crucible of humanity's darkest hour. An iron colossus, its form speaks of ancient deities and forgotten legends, yet it is bound by no myth—only the will of those who dare to dream. It stands as an aegis against the tides of oblivion, a tyrant to the forces of the iniquitous, the alien, and the wicked, to ensure the dynasty of man alone dominates our world now and always.
This is no mere automaton, but a fortress given life—a fortress with the soul of a warrior and the heart of a storm. Its steps quake the earth, its fists crash like falling meteors. With armor as unyielding as the mountains and a core that roars like a chained tempest, this machine does not fight; it dominates, it obliterates. Born under the shadow of annihilation, it became the light that cast those shadows back into the abyss.
Its legend is one told in the hush of dawn, where the sea meets the sky, where the whispers of survivors and the tales of the daring converge. Tyrant Dynasty, the unbreakable, the indomitable, the eternal shield against the night. Where it treads, the land remembers, and the stars bear witness.
For in this Jaeger, Singapore's strength takes form—a strength that endures, that fights, that triumphs. And in its wake, the Kaiju tremble, for they face not just metal and might, but the unshakeable will of a million beating hearts, united in a single purpose: survival.
Official Service Record[]
Tyrant Dynasty was a Mark-I Singaporean Jaeger, the penultimate achievement of the first generation of Jaegers before the advent of the Mark-II production line. Piloted by twin brothers Lee Chen Jiawei and Lee Chen Tao, this mechanical mountain was a sheer force of blunt brutality clocking in at 2,409 tons, a mere 3 tons lighter than the venerable Mark-I Russian Jaeger Cherno Alpha. Being among the last of the Mark-Is, Tyrant Dynasty's designers took much inspiration from it's Jaeger compatriots and included many weapons and specifications akin to those found on the earliest Jaegers.
Despite its legendary armor and ludicrous amount of firepower, Tyrant Dynasty suffered from several severe drawbacks as a result of all this tonnage. The armor, impressive even for a Jaeger, had to be cut down to save as much weight as possible for the multitude of weapons systems mounted to the titan. Not only did this limit the nonetheless incredible survivability of the mech, it also gravely impacted Tyrant's mobility. Although Tyrant was of minimally lighter build than it's cousin Cherno Alpha, it was even slower than the Russian T-90. The colossal armor plate that sat above the chest-mounted conn-pod came with the side effect of the Jaeger being extremely top heavy which disrupted the mech's equilibrium, necessitating the use of several dozen gyrostabilizers. Unfortunately, this only offered minuscule improvements as even with the abundant stabilization mechanisms, the Jaeger's mobility was nevertheless abysmally inadequate, even among the crude and lumbering Mark-Is.
The excess of weapon systems overburdened the relatively primitive AI and computing suites, as well as led to an engineering and maintenance nightmare of a mech with how many systems were interweaving and conflicting with each other. Tyrant's weapons also flew in the face of the PPDC's doctrine to prevent the spread of Kaiju Blue, as its arsenal consisted of cutting blades and ballistic projectiles as opposed to incendiary or plasma designs which effectively cauterized wounds.
Despite the nigh unending shortcomings and faults of this Jaeger, Tyrant Dynasty stood fast against the Kaiju horde, experiencing a long and noble service life from it's launch date of December 27th, 2015 until it's day of defeat on September 19th, 2022. Curiously, it experienced a rather unusual fate compared to it's fallen brethren. Like Mark-II and Mark-III Jaegers Malignant Paladin and Gipsy Danger, Tyrant Dynasty would be spared the ill-begotten destiny of rusting away in the Jaeger graveyard Oblivion Bay and instead be housed in the Hong Kong Shatterdome where it was slowly yet steadily resuscitated and modernized over the course of three years. Tyrant Dynasty earned an impressive five Kaiju kills before it was decommissioned in late 2022.
Early Combat History[]
Singapore, Southeast Asia: January 2nd, 2016[]
The newly commissioned Mark-I would experience it's first brush of combat within barely a week of it's launch as it fended off a Category I Kaiju dubbed Kecil (Malay: small). On January 2nd, 2016, seismic activity detected an unusually small Kaiju emerged from the Breach at 0732 hours. Once free from the wormhole's threshold, projections indicated Kecil had targeted Tyrant's home country of Singapore. Fresh and inexperienced, twin pilots Lee Chen Jiawei and Lee Chen Tao eagerly pressed the Pan Pacific Defense Corps to allow them to strike the Kaiju down in defense of their homeland. They were granted their wish.
0830 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty initiates deployment from the Hong Kong Shatterdome hitched to several dozen aircraft and journeys northeast towards the intercept point in the Middle Natuna Archipelago, a group of islands themselves part of the larger Riau Islands which stood between Singapore and Kecil. Two hours later, Tyrant Dynasty is dropped onto the isle of Natuna-besar, the largest of the Middle Natuna Islands, mere minutes before Kecil makes landfall on the small landmass.
1042 Hours: Category I Kaiju Kecil surfaces from the waves 0.3 miles off the coast of Natuna-besar. A small beast, Kecil is bipedal; long skinny legs hold up a slender frame with two skinny arms extending from it's torso ending in long, sharp claws. It's abnormally large head is attached to it's body via a thin neck. Resting upon it's head are four striking orange eyes and a tall crest.
1043 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty engages Kecil after the beast charges the Jaeger. Tyrant stands it's ground and easily takes the brunt of the small beasts' attack with it's heavy weight and armor. Kecil's weak slashes are of little consequence to Tyrant. The mech utilizes it's strength to hoist the flailing beast into the sky and tosses it back towards the sea.
1045 Hours: Kecil, though dazed, manages to recover and mindlessly attacks the Jaeger again. Tyrant Dynasty opens fire with all ranged weaponry save it's strategic missile launcher. A barrage from it's Harbinger Mortars knocks the beast to it's knees as it's shoulder Vortex Cannon tears through the Kaiju's weak hide.
1047 Hours: The Kaiju is mortally wounded, lying unmoving in the water. Tyrant Dynasty approaches the dying Kecil and looms over the beast. The Jaeger makes a motion with it's elbow toward Kecil, much like a television wrestler before falling over onto the beasts neck, severing it's spine with it's weight. Kecil is confirmed deceased, Tyrant Dynasty earns it's first Kaiju kill.
Seoul, South Korea: August 23rd, 2016[]
Tyrant Dynasty's next battle would be it's first Jaeger co-op. It's partner was the gleaming, newly commissioned Mark-II South Korean Jaeger Malignant Paladin. Built entirely for ranged combat and exceptional mobility, the two Jaegers could not be further apart in design doctrine. Where the mechs differed, their pilots maintained a mutual connection. Understanding having one's homeland put in danger by the Kaiju threat, Tyrant's pilots sympathized with the newly graduated pilots of Malignant Paladin Kim Min Su and Lee Hyori. Tyrant Dynasty was sanctioned to assist Malignant Paladin against the Category II Kaiju Itami (Japanese: wound, hurt, pain), which breached at 1119 hours. It's target city was the capital of South Korea: Seoul. Tyrant Dynasty and Malignant Paladin deployed from the Nagasaki Shatterdome at 1125 hours and were transported to the waters surrounding Incheon and awaited the arrival of Itami.
1145 Hours: Itami emerges from the water 12 miles off the coast of South Korea and begins wading towards the dense urban area of Incheon. Tyrant Dynasty and Malignant Paladin immediately move to intercept.
1153 Hours: Tyrant and Paladin make contact with Itami 10.4 miles off the coast. Upon detecting the Jaeger duo, Itami immediately charges toward the pair. Malignant Paladin utilizes it's prototype LV-1 Armstrong Gauss Cannon and fires several projectiles at the charging beast. One manages to strike the Kaiju in the abdomen but does not fully penetrate through it's mass.
1154 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty opens fire with it's Harbinger Mortars, though the projectiles fail to make contact and only daze the beast slightly. Tyrant gives Paladin the order to advance as it follows behind, hitting the Kaiju with several shots from it's LN-94 Cannons. Paladin engages Itami with it's OHA-V3 Malignant Saber, using it's back-mounted jets to dash towards the Kaiju. Dropping to it's knees and sliding forward, Paladin evades a wild swing from Itami's claws and slashes it's left leg, forcing the beast to it's knees. Tyrant follows with a devastating left hook to Itami's temple, the pressure from the blow activating it's Ballistic Fists, the blast entirely stunning the Kaiju.
1156 Hours: Tyrant maneuvers behind Itami and wraps it's arms around the Kaiju, putting it in a headlock. Malignant Paladin stabs forward with it's saber. The blade punctures out through the back of the Kaiju, destroying it's heart and nearly striking Tyrant. Itami is pronounced dead, Malignant Paladin and Tyrant Dynasty are both awarded the kill.
Nakhodka, Russia: February 15th, 2019[]
In February of 2019, Tyrant Dynasty had been rotated to the Vladivostok Shatterdome to assist it's Mark-I twin, the Russian Jaeger Cherno Alpha in defending the frigid glacial waters of Siberia. It's second tandem operation would pit the twin titans against a formidable Category III Kaiju codenamed Chernobog (West Slavic deity of evil/darkness). This malicious abomination breached midday of February 15th at around 1307 hours. The beast's target was Vladivostok, the largest Russian city in the region and home to Russia's sole Shatterdome. The chosen intercept point at which Tyrant and Cherno would face Chernobog was several miles off the coast of Nakhodka, a large nearby port city. The two Jaegers exited the Shatterdome at 1445 hours, carried eastward by dozens of aircraft towards the intercept point near Nakhodka.
1532 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty and Cherno Alpha are released into the waters just off Nakhodka harbor.
1545 Hours: Chernobog emerges from the icy waves 2.3 miles off the coast of Nakhodka. Category III Kaiju Chernobog is uniquely crustacean-like, much like the Category II terror Onibaba that demolished Tokyo. Thick plates of chitinous armor form a crest from it's head down it's spine, the torso sitting atop two stubby legs, much like an elephant's to support it's size and weight. Short, plated arms end in large clawed pincers. Atop it's head sits a set of long, serrated horns, under which lie two beady black eyes.
1546 Hours: Chernobog engages Tyrant and Cherno as it rushes head first towards the pair. The duo split up and flank Chernobog. Tyrant attracts its attention by firing a torrent of projectiles from it's ranged arsenal. Chernobog turns toward Tyrant and claws at the Jaeger.
1546 Hours: Tyrant and Chernobog grapple ferociously. The beasts' large arms prove a formidable challenge even for the mighty Mark-I. Though Tyrant manages to hold the creature at bay, it is nonetheless pierced in its upper right torso by one of Chernobog's horns.
1546 Hours: Cherno Alpha moves in behind Chernobog to assist Tyrant. Cherno Alpha locates a chink in the Kaiju's armored plates and proceeds to tear off a large chunk of it's chitin. The beast, reeling from the pain, releases Tyrant to focus on it's new attacker. Cherno Alpha manages to get the monster in a chokehold, activating it's Incinerator Turbines on Chernobog, though the searing hot blast is nullified by the Kaiju's thick armor.
1547 Hours: Now recovered, Tyrant takes advantage of the Kaiju's predicament and lands several devastating punches on Chernobog's unarmored belly. Tyrant's Ballistic Fists activate from the force and blast large holes into the Kaiju. Though wounded, Chernobog remains standing.
1547 Hours: Chernobog manages to wrench free of Cherno Alpha's hold and clasps onto the Russian Jaeger, catching it's left arm in it's jaws. Cherno responds by hammering down on the Kaiju's snarling head with dozens of mountain-shaking blows.
1548 Hours: Cherno Alpha wrenches itself from the Kaiju's jaws and throws the beast toward Tyrant. Tyrant catches the assailant by impaling it in the armpits with it's Obsidian Daggers. The Jaeger cuts upward, severing the Kaiju's arms. Mortally wounded, Chernobog collapses into the sea.
1549 Hours: In an effort to ensure the Kaiju's demise, Tyrant's pilots crush the head of the beast under it's foot, preventing any opportunity of recovery for study. For this act, they are mildly chastised by PPDC command though no serious punishment is given. Tyrant is awarded it's third Kaiju kill.
Disaster of Taipei, Taiwan: March 22nd, 2021[]
After Mark-III American Jaeger Gipsy Danger's pyrrhic victory against the Category III Kaiju Knifehead, the frequency and potency of Kaiju attacks began to steadily rise. Entering the 8th year of the Kaiju War, the era of small, "easy" to manage Category I and II Kaijus had long since passed. By 2021, monsters of truly gargantuan size and of monumental threat were now regularly emerging from the Breach. Jaegers and their pilots began to thin in numbers as more and more fell to the relentless Kaiju horde, and the reallocation of PPDC and UN funding towards the construction of the Anti-Kaiju "Wall of Life" Program ensured no new mechanical saviors would take the place of the fallen. Amongst the alarmingly swift rise in the amount of fallen Jaegers stood Tyrant Dynasty, one of the oldest still in service. It was called to action again on March 22nd, 2021 when one of the first Category IV Kaijus breached at 0152 hours. Dubbed Kyojin (Japanese: titan/giant), it began it's march towards the capital of Taiwan, the vast metropolis of Taipei. This absolute behemoth of a Kaiju stood atop two long, muscular legs that supported an enormous torso. Kyojin had standard Kaiju features, but differed in it's sheer size. It possessed the unique feature of a clubbed tail, much like that of an Ankylosaurus. Aware of the threat posed by a then nearly unseen category of Kaiju, the PPDC hastily deployed Tyrant Dynasty whilst ordering several other Jaegers be put on standby, less the situation turn south fast. It would turn out to be one of the costliest victories of the war.
0200 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty is swiftly deployed from the Hong Kong Shatterdome in a quick effort to intercept Kyojin at the Miracle Mile of Taipei. The beast is closing in alarmingly fast, the PPDC can only hope they've sent Tyrant into the field fast enough.
0443 Hours: After two hours of travel, Tyrant Dynasty is released into the mouth of Keelung Harbor, where the Zhongshen and Zhongzheng Districts of Keelung City meet. This is the threshold to Taiwan. If Tyrant fails to hold the Kaiju here, then Keelung and Taipei is at the mercy of Kyojin.
0445 Hours: Kyojin emerges from the water directly off the coast of Keelung Harbor. Curiously, it does not immediately attack Tyrant on sight, rather it remains stationary.
0448 Hours: After several minutes of waiting, Tyrant's pilots lose their patience and engage Kyojin. Once the Jaeger closes the gap, Kyojin finally advances and meets the Jaeger just 0.2 miles from the mouth of the harbor.
0449 Hours: Tyrant unleashes all of it's ranged weaponry on the beast in it's signature move "Broadside Salvo". It's LN-94 cannons, Vortex Cannon and "Harbinger" Anti-Kaiju Mortars rain down like demonic fire on the Kaiju. Most of the projectiles fail to meet their target, though two mortar shells manage to directly strike Kyojin.
0450 Hours: Kyojin and Tyrant engage in physical combat. Being such a large beast, Tyrant struggles to keep it at bay. For the first time, the Singapore Sentinel is faced with a stronger opponent. To make matters worse, the mechanical shortcomings of Tyrant show through as it's Ballistic Fists malfunction and fail to activate on contact. Despite managing to land several hits and a powerful overhead blow, Tyrant and Kyojin are locked in a titanic stalemate.
0453 Hours: Kyojin eventually manages to overwhelm Tyrant and uses it's club-like tail to strike Tyrant's leg, knocking the mech to it's knees. Kyojin then gains the upper hand and forces the struggling Jaeger underwater where it proceeds to pummel and tear at the helpless machine.
0454 Hours: After a harrowing minute of ferocious attacks, Kyojin ceases it's assault and leaves Tyrant motionless in the waters of the harbor. Unopposed, the monster begins it's infamous 22 mile scourge of catastrophic destruction across northern Taiwan.
0502 Hours: Kyojin makes landfall in Keelung City, cutting a wide path of devastation throughout the densely populated urban center. The titan razes the buildings of central Keelung to the ground, stomping buildings to the foundation and massacring thousands in mere minutes. It eventually follows Nanrong Road south out of the city, leading the beast towards Taipei.
0513 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty's pilots regain consciousness and raise themselves from the waters of the harbor. At the time of their recovery, Kyojin has left several miles of destruction throughout Keelung in it's wake, cutting through the Ren'ai District and rapidly approaching the Keelung River which leads directly to Taipei.
0514 Hours: In the meantime, the PPDC has raised alarm throughout Taiwan, ordering the mass evacuation of citizens to the southern tip of the island in a desperate attempt to save lives. However, with the warning coming suddenly so early in the morning, many civilians are dazed, panicked and confused, with thousands attempting to flee dense populations centers such as Taipei en masse. Inevitably, the hundreds of cars and people all simultaneously attempting to flee the dense urban streets forms massive roadblocks and jams, leaving thousands trapped and helpless on the roads and in the cities.
0515 Hours: PPDC initiates deployment of auxiliary standby Jaegers: Mark II Peruvian Jaeger Solar Prophet, Mark III Chinese Jaeger Shaolin Rogue and Mark IV South Korean Jaeger Nova Hyperion in the hope they will arrive in time to halt the monster's rampage.
0515 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty attempts to follow Kyojin through it's path of chaos to bring the beast down. Being the slowest of all Jaegers, Tyrant has almost no hope of catching up to Kyojin before it reaches Taipei.
0520 Hours: Support Jaegers launch from the Hong Kong and Nagasaki Shatterdomes.
0531 Hours: Kyojin reaches the Keelung River and turns toward Taipei, laying waste to anyone caught in it's path. Whole towns and villages are stomped into the earth as Kyojin continues it's march.
0542 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty manages to reach Keelung River, following the beast's path supported by information from PPDC surveillance. At this time, Kyojin is approximately 3 miles ahead of the Jaeger.
0547 Hours: Kyojin reaches the outskirts of Taipei, entering Xizhi District of New Taipei City. An enormous wave of civilians who had attempted to flee the monster were halted by the sheer amount of refugees, and are tragically caught in the beast's path. Unable to find any refuge, thousands are trampled underfoot. Kyojin proceeds to level several dozen buildings, leaving staggering piles of rubble and dead in it's wake. Severed power lines and damaged junction stations mix with the spilt fuel and leaking gas of hundreds of destroyed vehicles, buildings and petrol stations, sparking fires which quickly erupt into a massive firestorm that spreads throughout rubble and ruins in the wake of Kyojin's rampage, incinerating hundreds trapped in the destruction.
0555 Hours: The Kaiju enters Neihu District with Tyrant still trying to catch up. Kyojin is now in Taipei proper.
0602 Hours: Kyojin tears through Neihu District in a manner of minutes. It cuts through the heart of the district; high rises and buildings fall to the beast as it continues its horrific onslaught. Tyrant Dynasty has finally reached and crossed Xizhu District of New Taipei City and is closing in on the abomination.
0607 Hours: Kyojin cuts south into Songshang District, trampling buildings and trapped civilians. More fires and chaos erupt in the wake of it's attack. Thousands pack into underground Metro stations in a desperate effort to escape the beast.
0610 Hours: Tyrant, having closed the gap between itself and Kyojin as the beast distracted itself with the carnage, nears Kyojin's position.
0612 Hours: An irreplaceable icon and landmark of Taipei, one of the worlds tallest structures, stands in Kyojin's path. The beast smashes into the base of the famous Taipei 101 Tower, cleaving right through the bottom half of the skyscraper with the building collapsing soon after. It's destruction and the loss of so many souls inside at the time marks one of the most devastating losses of life in a single incident during the Kaiju War.
0612 Hours: Tyrant finally reenters the fight against Kyojin at the site of Taipei 101's collapse. The result of so much destruction has caused a thick screen of dust and smoke to lay over the city. Combating low visibility and fighting in a civilian-occupied urban setting, Tyrant is unable to utilize ranged weaponry, relying only on it's fists and blades.
0614 Hours: Tyrant engages Kyojin for the second time, landing enraged blows on the Kaiju's face before unsheathing it's Obsidian Daggers. With the daggers, Tyrant slashes and hacks at the beast's tough hide.
0615 Hours: Kyojin grabs hold of Tyrant's arms and tosses it into a nearby building, weakening the structure but it remains standing. Tyrant reengages the beast with a flurry of slashes and stabs, but they prove meaningless.
0619 Hours: The wounded and fading Mark-I begins to falter from intense damage and and the pilots extreme fatigue, straining both the ancient Jaeger and the exhausted pilots. It's slashes prove too weak to end Kyojin. However, the pilots spot the tip of the spire from the Taipei 101 Tower. With one last surge of adrenaline, they force the Kaiju to the ground and dive for the spire. Wrenching it from the rubble of the tower, Tyrant turns around just before Kyojin has a chance to slash Tyrant in the back. Utilizing the enormous piece of metal, Tyrant thrusts upward, stabbing Kyojin with the spire through the base of it's jaw, puncturing through it's brain and out through the top of the beasts head. The Category IV instantly collapses, deceased. It's two hours of unopposed rampage is finally over. Tyrant Dynasty receives it's fourth, albeit pyrrhic and hallow, Kaiju kill.
Aftermath of the Taipei Disaster[]
By the end of March 22nd, 2021, a truly cataclysmic figure of 91,813 people had been confirmed to have died from the apocalyptic attack. The following weeks, months and years after would see a surging rise of fatalities from the effects of physical injuries, discovery of bodies trapped in rubble, toxic inhalants, Kaiju Blue and trauma endured by the people of Taiwan. By the end of the First Kaiju War in 2025, a total of 157,256 fatalities had been attributed to the incident, either as a direct result of the carnage or in it's aftermath. Hundreds of thousands more were displaced from the destruction of two major cities. 22 miles of residential, industrial, cultural and historical centers and infrastructure had been laid waste to in just two hours. Taipei, capital of Taiwan, was reduced to a smoking pile of rubble and ash. It was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster for humanity.
The failure to save the city had massive ripple effects throughout the world, leading to radical shifts in PPDC and UN policies as well as doctrine. Once quiet skeptics of the Jaeger Program within the PPDC became loud antagonists of it's continuation. With the concept of the Anti-Kaiju "Wall of Life" having already been conceived in April of 2020, support for the continuation of the Jaegers fell considerably within the PPDC and UN command in favor of fully committing resources towards the Wall. Although the staggering losses of Jaegers in the former and following years of the incident contributed to the cancellation of the Jaeger Program, it was ultimately the devastation at Taipei that sealed the fate of the Jaegers. Global public support and morale simultaneously plummeted. Many in Taiwan came to resent and despise the PPDC and the Rangers, particularly the pilots of Tyrant Dynasty for having let Kyojin run rampant. The PPDC was now faced with a massive humanitarian and political crisis. The hundreds of thousands that were displaced packed into surrounding cities and towns, forming dilapidated and overcrowded slums. The refugees would be faced with inhumane conditions, rampant disease, a lack of fresh food, water and medicinal aid. Thousands were injured or declared missing in the attack, and 22 miles of trampled infrastructure required incalculable resources, finances and manpower to clear the destruction and begin reconstruction. The UN would eventually form a massive relief effort to alleviate the suffering of the Taiwanese which largely succeeded, but the pain of that terrible day would never fade.
With the dwindling financial and political support it had, the PPDC would nonetheless experience a massive shift in overall tactics and preparation in the aftermath of the disaster. The emergence of a Category IV had happened once or twice already, but one of the size and threat that Kyojin posed had never been seen in the era of Jaegers. Early warning systems and deployment methods were extensively revised, leading to overall improvement of monitoring and faster deployment of Jaegers. Maintenance checks of Jaegers were also to be strictly and intensively enforced, ensuring there would be no mechanical faults again after the failure of Tyrant's weapon systems in combat. Tyrant itself would undergo a radical overhaul and retrofit process to bring the Jaeger up to standard. Overall engineering on the mech was greatly revamped as it received upgrades for it's aging Mark-I systems. Tyrant's reliability would likewise be vastly enhanced, a consequence of the near total redesign of it's systems. Part of the reason Tyrant took so long to stop Kyojin was due to it's failure to simply catch up to the beast as a result of it's extremely heavy build and off-balanced design. The removal of several unnecessary weapons systems worked to dramatically improve the Jaeger's mobility, such as it's back-mounted nuclear missile and it's abdominal LN-94 Cannons, contributing to the improvement in it's overall reliability.
The pilots of Tyrant Dynasty Lee Chen Jiawei and Lee Chen Tao faced minor criticism from PPDC officials, but these voices were largely ignored by the rest of PPDC command. The residents of Taipei however would especially resent the two Rangers for failing to save their city and loved ones. The twin pilots themselves felt a deep sense of self-loathing and guilt, feeling they had failed to protect the people they swore to defend. Their failure, in their eyes, led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands. This battle would never leave their minds. From their immense sense of guilt, they felt unworthy of continuing their careers as Jaeger pilots, and would later initiate the process for their discharge from the program.
Shanghai, Day of Defeat: September 19th, 2022[]
After a long and arduous service life of over 7 years, Tyrant Dynasty would meet it's end on September 19th, 2022 at the hands of Category IV Kaiju "Xiangliu" (Chinese mythological nine headed snake: bringer of flood and destruction). After months of dealing with the shame and failure of Taipei, the pilots of Tyrant Dynasty had submitted a request for discharge from the Jaeger Program on September 12th. However, the emergence of Xiangliu from the Breach just 7 days later halted the process, and the PPDC called them to action one last time. Seeing a possible opportunity for redemption and a chance to kill one last Kaiju out of recompense for Taiwan, the twins agreed to the mission. At 1943 hours on September 19th, 2022, Category IV Kaiju Xiangliu emerged from the Breach, scans pointing it's trajectory toward the massive city of Shanghai. A colossal Category IV even larger than Kyojin, Xiangliu was a truly monstrous creature. Four long, thick arms protruded from it's slender torso, and it had the horrific feature of two individual heads, giving the beast it's name. Tyrant's pilots understood the grave threat this Kaiju posed, and prepared for the hardest fight of their lives.
Recognizing the inherent hazard Xiangliu posed to a singular, ancient Mark-I Jaeger, the PPDC also deployed the Mark-IV Chinese Jaeger Crimson Typhoon to fight the Kaiju. The battle plan devised by PPDC command was to use Tyrant Dynasty as a bulwark, stopping Xiangliu from progressing any further than than the Miracle Mile. As Tyrant held the Kaiju, Crimson Typhoon would be deployed at an undisclosed location away from the two titans, where it would make it's way toward the battle and ambush Xiangliu from a designated weak spot on the base of it's necks. Unfortunately, the plan would evaporate the moment the battle started.
2000 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty launches from Hong Kong Shatterdome, Crimson Typhoon initiates deployment measures.
2317 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty is dropped 13.2 miles off the coast of Shanghai, China to intercept Xiangliu at the Miracle Mile.
2334 Hours: Xiangliu emerges from the water and makes contact with Tyrant Dynasty. Crimson Typhoon is 5 minutes out from it's drop point.
2335 Hours: Tyrant Dynasty engages Xiangliu with it's Vortex Cannon and Harbinger Mortars. Several mortar shells hit the beast, causing it to scurry underwater. Tyrant loses visual on Xiangliu.
2337 Hours: Xiangliu pounces out of the water from behind the surprised Jaeger. Tyrant barely manages to turn around fast enough in order to meet the Kaiju's attack. The force of the tackle almost causes Tyrant to topple over, but the upgraded gyrostabilizers and removal of several tons of weight from the 2021 retrofit allow the mech to remain standing.
2338 Hours: Tyrant is held in place by Xiangliu's two upper arms as it's lower set claws at the Jaeger's stomach. It's thick armor holds, but the situation is not in the Jaeger's favor. Tyrant uses the weight and momentum of the beast to pull the Kaiju over it's head and throw it down into the water. Tyrant unleashes a volley of point-blank fire from it's Vortex Cannon, shredding the Kaiju's upper left arm.
2339 Hours: Crimson Typhoon is deployed into it's drop zone 1.1 miles away from the battle and begins moving to support Tyrant.
2340 Hours: With the Kaiju reeling from it's injures, Tyrant grabs the beast's right head and begins pummeling Xiangliu's two faces. The Kaiju goes limp from several devastating blows of Tyrant's Ballistic Fists.
2342 Hours: Thinking the Kaiju either deceased or unconscious, Tyrant's pilots prepare to use it's signature move "Death By A Thousand Tons", used in it's first ever battle against the Kaiju Kecil.
2342 Hours: As the mech falls elbow-first towards the inert beast, Xiangliu suddenly springs to life and evades the attack, causing Tyrant to fall into the sea.
2343 Hours: Before the cumbersome Mark-I can recover, Xiangliu again pounces the Jaeger and keeps it underwater as it's arms and heads claw and bite at Tyrant. The mech is now helpless in the water as the Kaiju rips it apart.
2344 Hours: Crimson Typhoon is 2 minutes out.
2344 Hours: Tyrant remains pinned by the Kaiju as it's heads bit at the Jaeger's reactor, though it's teeth are unable to penetrate the thick plating. Tyrant manages to free it's left arm and lands a jab on the Kaiju's right head, but it is of little consequence. The beast continues it's attack. Thanks to it's incredible armor, Tyrant remains in one piece, but much of it's armor plating and systems are either ripped off or disabled.
2345 Hours: Tyrant finally manages to kick the beast off of itself, but remains down in the water, unable to stand. The shocking pain the pilots endured from Xiangliu's assault cause both to black out, rendering the mech entirely defenseless.
2346 Hours: Before Xiangliu can finish off Tyrant, it's struck by several devastating shots to both heads from Crimson Typhoon's IB22 Plasmacaster. The force of the blasts blows apart it's left head and punctures through the right. Xiangliu collapses into the sea, deceased. Crimson Typhoon and Tyrant Dynasty are both accredited the kill.
Aftermath of Shanghai[]
Once Xiangliu was confirmed deceased, Crimson Typhoon, in an act of camaraderie, lifted Tyrant's upper half out of the water and rested the disabled mech against it's knee in order to ensure the pilots would not drown in the event it's conn-pod had been breached during the battle. Typhoon holds this position until Rescue and Recovery teams arrive at the site to both retrieve Xiangliu's corpse as well as Tyrant Dynasty and it's pilots. Despite being heavily damaged, Tyrant remained intact as a whole, and was deemed worthy of resuscitation. The pilots were freed from the conn-pod and their unconscious bodies were taken to an awaiting air ambulance as Typhoon cradled the mech. The pilots were evacuated to Shanghai for treatment whilst an armada of aircraft hooked onto Tyrant and transported it back to the Hong Kong Shatterdome.
In Hong Kong, Tyrant was given minor resources from the dwindling funding of the Jaeger Program geared toward it's repair and reactivation. Over the course of three years, it's revival was a minor priority of the PPDC. However, as the war continually turned in favor of the Kaiju, and as more and more Jaegers fell, it was deemed necessary that more resources be diverted to the revival of three decommissioned Jaegers: Mark-III Gipsy Danger, Mark-II Malignant Paladin and of course, Tyrant Dynasty. Each Jaeger was slated to support Mark-V Australian Jaeger Striker Eureka, along with the two other remaining Jaegers Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha in the PPDC's final plan to seal the Breach. However, only Gipsy Danger's revival was completed on time.
Sadly, Tyrant's pilots would soon leave the Jaeger Program, feeling an overwhelming amount of shame having first failed the people of Taiwan, and now Shanghai, who would've certainly met the same fate had Crimson Typhoon not intervened. The twins regarded themselves as unfit for duty, and resigned from the Rangers by the end of 2022. They would be approached by PPDC Marshal Stacker Pentecost at roughly the same time he met with former Rangers Raleigh Beckett and Malignant Paladin pilots Kim Min Su and Lee Hyori with an offer to return to the program alongside the repair of their respective Jaegers. Initially, they declined the offer. However, the complete failure of the Anti-Kaiju Wall was put on display as Category IV Kaiju Mutavore breached it in less than an hour and ravaged the city of Sydney, Australia. Seeing the dire situation the world was in, and hoping for one last chance to redeem themselves, the twins reluctantly agreed to rejoin the PPDC. Unfortunately, by the time of their return to the Hong Kong Shatterdome, Operation: Pitfall was already underway and their Jaeger was not yet complete.
This would not be the end of the Aegis of Asia, as it would later be used to patrol the shattered coastal cities of the Pacific Rim. It's pilots saw this as small way they could repent for their perceived failures. And should the Kaiju ever return, Tyrant Dynasty and it's pilots were ready to stand against them.
Equipment Overview[]
Tyrant Dynasty employed a vast range of systems, weapons and equipment, much of it seen on Jaegers that came before, and much of it experimental. A juggernaut whose only equal was the legendary Cherno Alpha, Tyrant Dynasty accrued a near mythical status as an unstoppable, manmade force of nature with an arsenal to rival the power of the sun. While much of the mech's design and the thinking behind it was in reality detrimental to it's performance, it nonetheless used it's impressive collection of technology and weaponry to successfully stall the Kaiju advance across the Pacific Rim. Although many of its internal systems were considered antiquated and obsolete even by the standards of it's fellow Mark-Is, Tyrant Dynasty would undergo numerous upgrades and retrofits to nullify the many problems that plagued the machine as well as make it even more lethal.
Initial Rollout Specifications[]
Launched on December 27th, 2015, Tyrant Dynasty was the second to last of the Mark-I class ever constructed. Taking much inspiration from previous Jaeger designs, especially Cherno Alpha, Tyrant Dynasty was forged to be the unstoppable wall of steel it came to be known as. With nearly impervious armor and the most diverse arsenal among all of it's Jaeger brethren, Tyrant Dynasty certainly was big, slow and powerful enough to make it's designers dreams a reality.
Weapons[]
- Dual vZ.291 Anti-Kaiju Ballistic Mortars. Mounted to the back of the mech, these experimental mortar dubbed Harbingers were much like those found on fellow Mark-I Japanese Jaeger Coyote Tango, piloted by the famed Stacker Pentecost. Able to engage Kaiju from great distances, these mortars launched gargantuan propelled grenades designed to puncture through the hide of a Kaiju and explode within it's mass. However, these mortars suffered from heinous accuracy issues, and Tyrant was never truly able to use them effectively. Nonetheless, they were one of the systems that remained following the 2021 retrofit.
- Dual LN-94 200mm Smoothbore Cannons. Prototype cannons initially intended for utilization on self-propelled artillery and armored vehicles, these 200mm LN-94 cannons could fire a range of projectiles from modified hide-piercing to high explosive rounds. Although enormous by human standards, these weapons lacked the power necessary to inflict any significant damage on Kaiju and, although they could fire a diverse set of rounds, were awkwardly placed aside the Jaeger's abdomen. They also added unnecessary complications and weight that negatively impacted the mech's mobility and reliability. These shortcomings led to their removal during the 2021 retrofit.
- Mark 1 Vortex Cannon. Designed and manufactured by then up-and-coming Chinese tech and defense contractor conglomerate Shao Industries, this first iteration of the Vortex Cannon was gifted to Tyrant Dynasty to be mounted atop its left shoulder. Of a caliber even larger than it's 200mm LN-94 Cannons, and with 6 rotating barrels firing at an astounding cyclic rate of 1,400 rounds per minute coupled with the ability to swivel a full 360 degrees, the Vortex Cannon proved a highly lethal adversary to any Kaiju that faced it. The Vortex Cannon served Tyrant honorably and ensured it's survival many times over. It's invaluable success ensured it's permanent place on the mech during the 2021 retrofit.
- Dual Double-Barreled SdFz.42 Ballistic Fists. Fixed to the forearms of Tyrant Dynasty, these double-barreled weapons functioned essentially as colossal shotguns. Much like Cherno Alpha, Tyrant Dynasty incorporated cylindrical devices embedded within it's fists, dubbed the Roll of Nickels. When sufficient force was applied to these pressure plates, say delivering a blow to a Kaiju, the ballistic fists would unleash devastating 352mm explosive slugs at point-blank distance. Singular blasts from these titanic cannons are more than capable of delivering a stunning or even an outright fatal blow to most Kaiju. Unfortunately, the reliability of this powerful system is not as exemplary as it's lethality, especially as it conflicts with the multitude of other weapons within Tyrant's arsenal. The question of its dependability was answered in Tyrant Dynasty's cataclysmic engagement with the Category IV Kaiju Kyojin which resulted in the Disaster of Taipei in late 2021. Early in the battle, the ballistic fists pressure sensors malfunctioned and failed to deliver the necessary signals to Tyrant's computational suite and were rendered useless. Revisionary historians looking back on the battle have pointed to the failure of the ballistic fists having heavily contributed to the disaster. However, the weapons proved too effective to remove, and were instead reworked and greatly improved during the 2021 retrofit.
- Dual OHA-xn7 Obsidian Daggers. Embedded in the wrists of the Singapore Sentinel were the Obsidian Daggers, short blades that could extend past the mech's fists. Forged by military manufacturing contractor Olympia Heavy Arms, these blades were sharpened to the micrometer, using a foundation of high-tensile hardened alloys with the edge of the blades encased in a form of a specially engineered obsidian, which gave the blades their name and distinctive midnight color. The brittle yet unmatched cutting power and sharpness of obsidian was paired with the resistance and flexibility of manufactured metals to create blades capable of shearing through the thick armor and hides of the already colossal Kaiju with ease. The same technology was later incorporated into Mark-II Jaeger Malignant Paladin's signature weapon: the OHA-v3 Malignant Saber, likewise created by Olympia Heavy Arms, and also influenced the design of the famous GD6 Chain Swords found on Gipsy Danger. These daggers would remain aboard the Jaeger following the 2021 retrofit.
- Last-Ditch ST-19 Strategic Nuclear Missile. The apex of Tyrant Dynasty's ardent arsenal, this miniature nuclear missile entombed in a gargantuan silo hitched to the spine of the Jaeger was aptly granted the title of the Messiah, for it would grant violent, righteous deliverance unto the Kaiju horde for mankind. Intended as an absolute last resort for Tyrant Dynasty, this hydrogen missile was miniature in everything except it's potency for destruction, for it contained the explosive yield equivalent to nearly 120 kilotons, putting it in the range of standard strategic missiles. Nuclear weapons of a tactical nature proved ineffective at nullifying Kaiju, displayed in the initial Kaiju incursions in San Francisco, Manila and Cabo San Lucas. Multiple nuclear weapons in the 50 kiloton yield were required to halt those Kaiju and in their wake left enormous amounts of radiation. Therefore Tyrant's more maniacal designers necessitated a weapon of much more devastating power and less potent radioactive potential. Being mounted to the back of a Jaeger, the missile of course needed to be small enough to fit on the mech, and therefore R&D was able to come up with a missile capable of delivering a 120 kiloton explosion in a package the size of standard ballistic missile. Being a hydrogen warhead, the ST-19 was able to deliver a much more potent explosion without the subsequent radioactive fallout attributed to nuclear weapons. However, the apocalyptic consequences of activating the missile were still very well understood by the pilots and the rest of the PPDC, and was thus never utilized. The only time the missile was even remotely considered was during Tyrant's clash with Kyojin. As Kyojin neared the outskirts of Taipei with Tyrant lagging terribly behind, several PPDC commanders voted in favor of launching the missile. Although it would surely cause apocalyptic consequences for Taipei, many at the time theorized it would pale in comparison to what Kyojin could achieve had it's rampage continued unopposed. Thankfully, the motion in favor of the missile was vetoed in an extremely narrow vote, and Tyrant was able to stop Kyojin before it could destroy all of Taipei, which the warhead would certainly have achieved. Despite being Tyrant's most powerful device by a gargantuan margin, the doomsday weapon's disadvantages far and wide outweighed its potential advantages. Fielding what was essentially a walking nuke, PPDC understood that even if the warhead was never launched, it could sustain damage in battle and therefore erupt nonetheless. If it was ever used, the estimated level of carnage it could unleash upon any densely populated area was unthinkable. In less cataclysmic battlefield factors, having an enormous missile silo strapped to the back of the Jaeger only further hampered the already woeful mobility and stability of the mech. In mechanical terms, it also meant maintenance of the machine would be nightmarish, as the systems needed constant monitoring and upkeep to ensure it would not only work, but not accidentally detonate itself. Due to the nigh infinite problems and drawbacks, the ST-19 was the first to be selected for removal during the 2021 retrofit.
